India- Emerging MRO Destination

The Indian civil aviation industry is amongst the top 10 global countries with a size of US$ 16 billion and is likely to see investments totaling US$ 21.1 billion during 2012-17 of which US$ 9.3 Billion is expected to come from the private sector. Indian carriers plan to increase their fleet size by 2020 to around 1200 aircraft says Boeing. On the other hand, over 300 business jets, 300 small aircraft, 250 helicopters and numerous MRO applications are expected to be added to the current fleet in the next 5 years. Total manpower requirement of airlines to rise from 62,000 in FY 2011 to 117,000 by FY 2017.

Similarly, with an estimated spend of US$ 20 billion on military aircraft by India over the coming 5 to 7 years, we will see significant capability being developed in country to support sustainment activity for these aircraft. Increase in acquisitions by Indian Air Force over the next 10 years will help India emerge as a dominant military MRO destination and will provide opportunity for large private MRO service providers, MRO technologies, domain expert to enter and conquer this field. The other defence services such as Indian Army, Indian Navy, Indian Coast Guard and Border Security Force also operate a large number of aircraft/helicopters/UAVs.
